Big Island Oriental Medicine is born!

June 15, 2019 Big Island Oriental Medicine
Arguably the most prized of all Chinese herbs, Ren Shen, or Asian ginseng. I recently scored a batch of it while on my externship in China!

Aloha!! Guess what? I finally named my future practice— Big Island Oriental Medicine.

I just created this website to start giving my passion for Oriental medicine a voice, and to provide a glimpse into what it takes to become a practitioner of Oriental Medicine! I am surprised at how many people don’t understand the level of academic endeavor this training requires. After one semester (out of four years) people started asking me if I was “done” yet…ha!

Yes, I study acupuncture- but Oriental medical training goes far beyond this. Not all acupuncturists practice herbal medicine, but our school has a good program in it, and I love it! I have a strong interest in herbal medicine and started growing my own herbs two years ago in preparation for my future practice— and recently added a baby reishi mushroom to that effort! I can’t wait to tell you all about it and share my photos.

For the last two and half years I have been publishing photos and posts of this journey on social media but that has some serious limitations. I decided to go ahead and get a website- and a blog- where I can share my experiences. For now, I have spent several hours building this thing and have neglected about 7 chapters of reading in pharmacology, pathophysiology, and the Nei Jing that all needs to be done for my two tests and one paper due over the next week….

So for now, I am going, but please check back soon and subscribe!
